The vacuum pump in VC pours the liquid steel smelted in the atmosphere into the ingot mould in vacuum chamber. It is a trickling flow vacuum processing device. The molten steel declines in fasciculation in the tundish into the vacuum chamber. The fasciculation expands due to rapid drop of pressure and comes down in fasciculation at a large angle, increasing the degassing surface area, helping gases escape and promoting surface reaction.
The degassing level depends on the pouring speed, the declining height and the diffusion angle as well as the gas content, the shape of gate, the vacuity, fluidity of molten steel, etc.
Vacuum casting drastically shortens the production cycle, thus promoting the equipment utilization ratio and decreasing energy consumption. Besides dehydrogenation, VC can prevent secondary oxidization, reduce nonmetallic impurities, lower the segregation degree and improve the interior quality of ingot.
Also, in vacuum casting with deoxygenated or semi-deoxygenated molten steel, the carbon in molten steel, during vacuum treatment, can remove the oxygen. The outcome of deoxygenation is CO gas so total deoxygenation is achieved and the cleanness is raised. The impurity content can go down below 0.01% after vacuum treatment.
